I’m a huge fan of Meera Kothand. While she is best known for her email marketing expertise, I take any advice provided on her blog to heart. That’s why this guest post about a manual pinning Pinterest strategy by Jenna Arvidson captured my attention.
Most of the posts that I have seen on manual pinning don’t give you the details on how to create a strategy. Often, they mention a course or book that you can purchase to get the full details. I was really surprised by what Jenna Arvidson revealed in this post.
She details how to create a spreadsheet to manually pin and keep track of your pins. It’s not nearly as complicated as I had anticipated. I used her advice in combination with Krystal Kleidon’s post below, “How I Use Secret Boards to Pin Strategically.”
Remember, as with any blog post, find what works best for you. In my case, whereas Jenna keeps track of her pins in a spreadsheet, I prefer to use a secret Pinterest board to keep track of mine. I tried using the Google docs spreadsheet method she suggests, but it didn’t work well for me.
I often work on-the-go, so adding a secret board and using her advice has worked wonders for my blog. As an added bonus, thanks to Jenna’s method, some of my old blog posts are getting renewed attention. I didn’t expect that!
SEO: 6 Places to Put Keywords on Pinterest

SEO (or search engine optimization) isn’t just for Google. With all of the social elements of Pinterest, it is easy to forget that it is first and foremost a search engine. That means that keywords play a huge role in whether or not your pins, profile, and boards are seen by potential followers.
I really love some of Krista Dickson’s Pinterest blog posts and it was difficult to choose only one. “SEO…” is a unique post because it addresses the search engine optimization aspect of Pinterest. It is a short and sweet post on making sure that you have keywords where you need them to drive traffic in your direction, organically.
If you only have a couple minutes, check out this post. Like I said, it’s short but packed full of awesome Pinterest tips for bloggers or entrepreneurs using Pinterest marketing to grow their brand and business. It’s easy to digest, easy to use and will have a significant impact on your Pinterest marketing results.
How to Create Pinterest Graphics with Canva

I am a huge Canva fan! I think I mention their products and services in nearly every Pinterest blog post I write and I am NOT an affiliate! They don’t currently offer an affiliate program. You know when boatloads of bloggers are recommending them and they aren’t getting a kickback, there has to be something to it.
This post by McKinzie is a tutorial on how you can create Pinterest graphics fast and easy using Canva. I do have a note to add: If you want to use a layout but don’t want to pay for a “PRO” layout, look for the layouts with the white box in the bottom-right corner that says “FREE”.
McKinzie takes you through the process of creating your first blog graphic, step-by-step. Her tutorial is easy to follow and gives you a taste of how awesome Canva can be. You can also create awesome graphics without a layout. Simply “Upload” pictures and add “Elements” and “Text.”
If you are new to Canva, I suggest you use a layout. With this option, you can easily edit elements within an existing template. I will also add that Canva has a mobile app, but I have yet to find a way to create graphics from scratch for Pinterest using it. I have used it for Instagram posts, but in general, I prefer using the PC version.
How to Create Your Pinterest Strategy

Creating a Pinterest marketing strategy is one of the most important parts of marketing your blog. Since many bloggers receive a large portion of their traffic from Pinterest, it is important to have a game plan in place to grow your Pinterest profile.
Jessica takes you through the process in this post and even helps you create SMART goals so that you know exactly what to do, how to do it, and when. I am a huge fan of SMART goals because they are extremely effective. If you would like to learn more about creating SMART Goals to grow your blog, you can read my post here.
In her blog post, Jessica covers quite a bit of ground. She discusses how to get to know your audience, set SMART goals for your Pinterest account, and create a plan of action to meet those goals. If you don’t have a pinning schedule or know where you want to take your audience, you must read this post.
It is full of useful information that any blogger will find helpful. Remember that once you create your Pinterest strategy, you must track it via your analytics to verify its effectiveness. While Pinterest Analytics is great, I agree with Jessica that having Google Analytics and Tailwind will help you get the most out of your Pinterest strategy.
The Step-by-Step Guide to Tailwind Tribes for Bloggers

For many new bloggers, Tailwind Tribes can be confusing and overwhelming. There is no doubt that Tailwind Tribes are a valuable marketing source, but it’s important to know how to use them effectively to make them worth your time and money.
Tailwind Tribes are very similar to Pinterest Group Boards. What makes them more valuable is the quality of the content and the pinners. On Pinterest, any blogger approved to join the group by the admin can pin your pins or submit pins to a board. Even pins with beautiful images can lead to low-quality content, which harms your Pinterest credibility.
This post by Alyssa of alyssa.ink is a great primer for those bloggers who are new to Tailwind. It takes the mystery out of finding, joining, and posting to Tribes. She also includes a couple of Tailwind videos that will help you understand the importance of Tribes and give you an overview of how to use them successfully.
This is one of the better Pinterest blog posts because of the way Alyssa lays it all out for you. Her instructions are illustrated and take you step-by-step through the process. You should have no problem using Tribes for the first time thanks to this great Pinterest post.
7 Mistakes Bloggers Make with Tailwind

I think almost every pinner is guilty of not using Tailwind correctly. As I mentioned in my post, “9 Tailwind Secrets that Will Explode Your Pinterest Views,” I didn’t like Tailwind when I first tried it. I felt like it was overrated and too expensive. I know, shocking, right?
Now, I love it! I use it daily to schedule pins at optimized times, pin to and from my Tribes, and monitor my Pinterest account. The reason I didn’t like Tailwind at first was that I didn’t know how to use it to its full potential. Catherine’s post pointed out nearly all of my mistakes and I know many bloggers are likely making the same mistakes I did.
In her post, Catherine talks about using Board lists and a number of other useful Tailwind tools and features. She also discusses how to correct these mistakes, which makes this one of the best Pinterest blog posts out there. The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Joining, and Using Group Boards on Pinterest

If you aren’t using Pinterest Group Boards, you are failing to take advantage of one of the greatest free marketing resources for your blog. I remember the confusion of finding and joining my first group boards. I found it too difficult to locate boards and joined some really bad ones. I quickly discovered that something wasn’t right when no traffic came my way.
I love Meg’s advice in this blog post. She tells you exactly how to find great group boards that align with your blog’s content and values. When she points out that not all group boards are equal, I can speak to that fact from experience. If you have never joined group boards before, this post is a great starting point.
I will add that joining the group boards of your favorite bloggers isn’t as easy as it sounds. Most of the boards my favorite bloggers use are closed to contributors (you can find this information in the board description). Also, some of the boards have high pre-requisites that new bloggers simply can’t meet.
A way that I have found some great boards is by searching for them using the Pinterest search bar. Simply search for your niche or a topic you blog about and add the words “group board” to the end of the search query and press “Enter” or “Go.” Once the search results populate, click on the drop-down menu to the right of the search bar and select “Boards.”
How to Use BoardBooster to Dominate Pinterest

I am a huge BoardBooster fan! BoardBooster is another Pinterest tool that bloggers should take full advantage of. Like Tailwind, it is a scheduler, but it does much more than schedule your posts. Whereas Tailwind is known for their Tribes, BoardBooster is known for its Looping Tool.
As Erin mentions in her post, Looping helps give old pins new life and exposure. She goes into quite a bit of detail about how to use the Looping tool effectively. That’s one of the reasons why I think this post is one of the best Pinterest blog posts.
BoardBooster offers Tribes, but to be honest, I hate their tribes. Unlike Tailwind Tribes, you have to be voted into the Tribe by the Tribe members. Then you have to vote on other members pins and they vote on yours.
Pins from other blogger’s boards are pinned to yours automatically, which is convenient but removes your control over the content pinned to your boards.
There is no single admin to the Tribe and if you are not a very active member you can be voted out. It’s a little too “Survivor”-esque for my taste. I was voted out of a tribe within days of being approved because of my lack of activity. Like I said, not my taste.
BoardBooster’s other tools and low price point ($5/month!) still make it a great buy. I regularly use their Campaigns and Looping tools. These two tools alone are responsible for my first 1,000 followers and 80,000 monthly views on Pinterest.

How I Use Secret Boards to Pin Strategically

Secret boards are one of the best tools that a Pinterest marketer can use to his or her advantage. Noone teaches you how to use them better than Krystal does in this blog post.
She makes it clear that Secret boards can be used for more than hiding content not related to your niche. Who hasn’t come across a recipe or craft and pinned it to a secret board, am I right? Krystal discusses how she uses secret boards to pin strategically to keep her Pinterest account on-brand.
She covers three scenarios in which she regularly uses secret boards as part of her Pinterest marketing strategy. This is exactly why I chose this post of one of the best Pinterest blog posts to learn from. It involves a strategy few people are talking about.
I will add a bit more here. I use secret boards to plan my blog post’s content and external links. For example, the post you are reading is a round-up post. I pinned each one of these posts to a secret board as I came across them while using the Pinterest app on my smartphone.
When it came time to write this post, the blog posts I had selected were sitting in a secret board, waiting to be used. This is a way I use secret boards as part of my content strategy in addition to my Pinterest marketing strategy.
Pinterest Marketing: How to Attract Relevant Followers

Having thousands of followers doesn’t help your brand if they are not relevant to your blogging niche. Think about it a minute. If you blog about fashion, would a follower who liked your one puppy pin be helpful to your brand? Probably not.
Caitlin Bacher’s post is probably one of the most important Pinterest blog posts on this list. That is because she helps you identify your core audience and pin to attract that audience. This is huge when it comes to growing your brand and earning an income from your blog.
In her post, Caitlin provides examples of some awesome pinner’s boards to give you an example of how you should brand your Pinterest account via your pins. This is especially important if you have a visual niche like fashion, makeup, or art.
As someone who blogs about an informational topic, it still helps to pin content that is closely related to my own, visually and content-wise. To be honest, there are a few bloggers whose content seems great, but visually, their pins will drag my boards down. I need to attract relevant followers and that type of content won’t work for my brand.
Read Caitlin’s post and think about how you can apply it to your brand to attract relevant followers that are more likely to become lifelong fans and paying customers. It may mean a few fewer followers up front, but it will boost your brand an sales in the long-run.
