To be honest, I wasn’t always a fan of Tailwind. I didn’t believe that it could possibly help me to improve my Pinterest views and blog traffic enough to justify a subscription. Boy, was I wrong!
This year, I committed to my blog started using Pinterest a lot more and scheduling all of my new blog posts at intervals. I allowed Tailwind to choose the best time to post the pins and sat back and watched my Pinterest account grow to over 400,000 monthly views.
After spending more time on the platform, I have discovered some of the best-kept secrets successful bloggers use to make their traffic explode. Today I’m going to share nine of those secrets with you so that you can enjoy the same success.

I was so disappointed when I first started using Tailwind. I wasn’t seeing the growth other bloggers claimed. The problem was that I wasn’t using Tailwind’s greatest features properly.
Tailwind is much more than a scheduler. It is a Pinterest marketing strategy tool!
Now that I have had more experience exploring all of the features it offers, I want to share those features with you.
I want you to know how you can use them to grow your Pinterest account fast and strong, even if you are a new blogger. Without further adieu, here they are!
Create and Use Board Lists
If you are like me, you create posts that can be pinned to multiple boards. For example, a Pinterest post could fall under my boards; Pinterest, Blog Marketing, and Blog Graphics. Depending on the content, it could also be pinned to other boards as well.
That’s why “Board Lists” are a huge time saver! Board lists are collections of your boards. To use them when you schedule your pins via the Tailwind publisher, instead of selecting individual boards, you click on a board list.
The board list will then populate all of the boards in that category. If one doesn’t match, all you have to do is click the “X” to the right of its name.
Like I said before, it’s a huge time saver!

Getting Started with Board Lists
From inside your Tailwind Dashboard, hover over the menu button on the left sidebar menu that looks like a megaphone. This is your Publisher. You will see the following drop-down menu selection.
Click on the fifth item with the star titled, “Board Lists.”
You will now see “Your Board Lists” in the main window. From here, you will see a box that says “Click to Add a List.” Click on the box. Once you do, another box will appear to the right that says “New Board List” that says “Type a Board Name.”
Editing List Information
Click on the little pen icon to the right of “New Board List” to change the name of the board. Your board name is the group of boards to which you would like to publish a pin.
For example, if you are writing a Pinterest post, “Pinterest” would be a good board list name. You could also use broader categories like, “Marketing” as well.
Once you have typed the board name, there is no need to save your work. Tailwind will do this automatically.
Now, click on the box that says “Type a Board Name.” Instead of typing in my Pinterest boards, I like to click in the text box and choose from a list of my existing boards.
When you select a board, it will appear in the “Type a Board Name” box. Keep clicking in the box and selecting boards until you are satisfied.
There is no need to save your progress. Tailwind does the saving for you as you work.
After you have created your board list, you are goo to go. Now, when you save a Pin from Pinterest or the web, you will see your board lists in the drop-down when you click on “Type a Board Name,” as seen below.
The board lists are shown at the top in yellow. The number of the boards in that list are to the right of the star in the yellow box. When you click on the list, all of its boards will be added.
Then you can delete the boards that aren’t relevant and schedule your pin to multiple boards with ease.
Use Intervals
Did you know that you can space out multiple repins of a single pin? This prevents your feed from being spammed with the same pin and optimizes its chances of being seen.
To do this, once you have selected the boards you wish to schedule a pin to, scroll down to the bottom of the pin scheduler.
To the left of the green “Add to Queue Now” button you will see a button that says “Use Interval,” as seen below.
Click on the “Use Interval” button and another box will appear below the publisher box, as seen in the following image.
As you can see, this box allows you to set the interval and time of each post. You also have the option to use open time slots or optimized times to allow Tailwind to post the pin when your audience is most likely to be online.
Once you have chosen the settings of your interval, click “Set Interval” and then schedule your pins as normal.
Use Optimized Times
As I mentioned above, scheduling your pin to post at an “optimized” time slots will allow Tailwind to determine the best time to post a pin based on when your viewers are most likely to be active.
This matters because new posts will appear at the top of your viewer’s Pinterest feed. As more pins are added, your pin drops down a list, so its important for your pins to be at the top of their feed.
If your audience member is only active a few minutes at a time, it is important for your pin to be one of the first he or she will see. This improves the likelihood of your pin being seen, repinned, and clicked.
Using optimized times will improve your repins as well as your board and profile performance. You will also gain more viewers and follows, effectively growing your account with little effort.
Tailwind Tribes are Your Friend
Group boards are to Pinterest as Tribes are to Tailwind. Group boards and tribes are essentially the same things. You pin your pins to the group board or tribe and repin other pins from that board or tribe to your own boards. It’s very quid pro quo and will boost your traffic.
However, Tribes tend to be composed of more professionals within your niche. That means that you are more likely to get higher quality repins and better exposure than when you use group boards on Pinterest.
Since you also have other pinners scheduling your pin at optimized times, your pins will go out to a more targeted audience at specific times and will increase your pin’s engagement.
Tailwind Tribes do have their limits, but you can purchase additional power-ups that allow you to pin to more Tribes more frequently for better results.
You get 5 Tribes and 30 pin submissions per month with the monthly plan or your free trial. Make the most of these by monitoring the tribe’s performance and choosing tribes in your niche.
Pin Popular Content from Tribes
When you pin content from Tribes, be sure that you are pinning reputable and popular content from the Tribe.
You will know which content is popular thanks to a small blue symbol with flames in the top-right corner of the pin, as seen below.
This symbol indicates how many shares this pin has had on Pinterest.
Pinning popular content is a good way to improve your own Pinterest account’s reputation. Pinterest looks at the quality of the content you post. The more people pinning the post, the higher the quality is, in Pinterest’s eyes.
Doing this will improve your Pinterest SEO rating and increase your brand exposure on the platform.
It also allows you to network with fellow bloggers and gains you exposure for pinning amazing content from other awesome bloggers.
Use Pin Inspector to Develop Your Pin Strategy
Tailwind has a pretty awesome tool that you can use to help you find out which pins are popular now (and in the past).
This tool is the Pin Inspector. Pin Inspector helps you track which pins are the most pinned pins from your domain for a specified period of time.
To use Pin Inspector, hover over the image of the graph in your sidebar menu. This icon is for your “Insights” tool. Click “Insights and a drop-down menu will appear.
Pin Inspector is the option with an icon that is a graph with a magnifying glass, as seen below.
Once you click on the Pin Inspector, you will be taken to the Pin Inspector tool.
The Pin Inspector lists your most popular pins from the most popular (at the top) to the least popular (at the bottom) for that given time period.
To the right, above the first image, you will see the date range of the pins shown. Simply click on the dates and adjust them as you see fit and your results will adjust automatically.
Below is a screenshot of an example of my results.
What to Look For
There are several things you can learn about your pins from these results. The first thing you should look at is the topic of your pins.
In this instance, you will notice that all of the content on this screen is evergreen, meaning it is as valid today as it will be a year from now.
You will still need to update evergreen content from time-to-time, but these posts are the best for long-term traffic to your blog.
The next thing you should look at is the design of your Pins. What do your highest performing pins have in common?
Something I have been working on is including more colors and warmer tones in my pins. This seems to be effective as all of my top pins have these characteristics.
Next, look at the date and time of when you originally pinned your pin. Look back on your calendar to determine on which day of the week this date fell on.
This will help you to determine the best time to pin your new pins for the best engagement.
Also, pay attention to which board the pin was originally pinned. This will help you schedule your pins to your best engaging boards.
Since my brand board has the highest repin rate, it is no surprise that the most pinned pins from the time period I selected come from that board.
Use all of the information you glean from Pin Inspector to plan your Pinterest Strategy. This will make your strategy more effective and much less time-consuming.
Monitor Group Board Repin Rates
You can find information about board performance by hover over the “Insights” menu and select “Board Insights.”
Board Insights give you important information on a board’s performance over time so that you can effectively analyze the success of campaigns and your marketing strategy.
Your group boards are the boards to which you should pay the most attention. Group boards are designated by an icon to the left of the title of the board. This icon includes three heads within parenthesis.
Virality and Engagement
There are two sets of data to pay close attention to; the Virality Score and Engagement Score.
The Virality Score is the repin rate per pin you have repinned to that board. On the other hand, you Engagement Score represents the pins and repins per follower of that board.
You want these numbers to be as high as possible. Although both numbers are important to determining the performance of your group boards, it is the Virality Score that I look at the most closely because it looks only at your repin per pin rate.
This will tell you exactly how that board’s audience responds to your pins.
If this number is low, that can mean a number of things. It could mean that your audience simply isn’t there, that your audience is there but not engaging with your pins, or that there are so many people pinning to the board that your pins are getting lost.
If the number of pins to a board is huge, I wouldn’t worry too much about the Engagement score. However, if the Virality Score is also low, I would consider leaving the board.
You can try different tactics and monitor the board’s progress, but if the board simply isn’t working for your brand, leave the board. It’s not valuable to your business.
Repin Popular Pins
Scheduling a repin of your popular pins will help that pin reach a greater audience and will improve its overall performance. As a result, it will increase your profile views as well.
To do this, repin directly from the results from the Pin Inspector as well as pins from Organic Activity (Insights>Organic Activity).
Tailwind makes it very easy to repin these pins. When you are viewing the pin from Pin Inspector, all you have to do is click the “Schedule a Repin” button to the far right column of the pin.
If you are viewing a pin from Organic Activity, there will be a red button to the right of the pin in the last column.
Pin Inspector also allows you to schedule a pin to your Tribes. I highly recommend considering sharing your highest performing pins in your tribes.
Popular content is much more likely to be repinned from your tribes than new or low performing pins.
